For School and District Leaders

Leading to Educate and Graduate Happy, Healthy, Wholesome Humans

This is one of two classes in the "Leading to" Symposium Series that is being offered, for a limited time only, at no charge to school and district leaders as part of Center for Responsive Schools' commitment to its vision and mission to bring hope and joy to every student and every teacher in every school, every day!

School and district leaders are increasingly becoming aware of the connection between academic and even athletic success to students’ behavioral, social-emotional, and mental health/well-being outcomes. An increasing number of districts and schools are creating a vision of the student who graduates from their school as well rounded, happy, healthy, and wholesome. Consequently, there is a clear call to teach the students the competencies and skills that lead to success in learning, play, friendships, sports, work, and life while in school and after graduating.

Moreover, research suggests that when adults learn, practice, and model these social-emotional, behavioral, and well-being skills, there is a high likelihood that there will be improvement in school climate and culture.

The questions that school leaders must answer include:
  • How do we find the time to teach these skills?
  • How do I explain why we should take time to teach them?
  • What tools and curriculum are available for teaching these skills?
  • What professional development should be offered when implementing programs that build the skills that lead to academic and life success for our students?

In this 3-hour professional development seminar, you will explore school-wide strategies, practices, and curricula that intentionally teach and develop the competencies and skills students need to succeed in learning, play, friendships, sports, work, and life and how important it is to both teach and model these skills. This seminar aims to help leaders answer these questions in the context of implementing school-wide strategies and curricula with the goal of educating and graduating well-rounded, happy, healthy, and wholesome humans.

You will network with other leaders and leave with fresh knowledge, ideas, strategies, and solutions for integrating instruction that teaches students the skills that power learning and meets your vision for a well-rounded high school graduate.
