We just got copies of our new multimedia professional development kit here in the office! It’s such a treat to finally get our hands on something that folks here have been working on for so long. Now we can hardly wait to start hearing from educators who are using it!
The Teacher Language Professional Development Kit is designed to help school-based book study groups learn to use positive teacher language to help students feel safe, respected, appreciated, and excited about learning. The core text is the award-winning The Power of Our Words: Teacher Language That Helps Children Learn by Paula Denton; the kit includes a facilitator’s copy of that book, plus detailed guidelines for eight study group sessions. There’s also a DVD that shows teachers using the strategies in real classrooms, an audio CD full of specific examples, a CD-ROM with printable handouts, and a copy of Energizers!. All of these resources can be used again and again by a school or district.
