Keep the Responsive Classroom Fire Burning

As you return to teaching after the winter break under circumstances that are still extremely challenging, it may be hard to focus on sparking the fire of learning in your students when you are trying to fan your own flames. We are here to support you and keep your fire going. We have heard from educators around the globe how Responsive Classroom has helped them get through a time in education that has not been faced by any other generation of educators. Join us for this special workshop as we embrace the New Year. Together we burn bright!

This is a four-part constructive workshop forum designed to support educators in applying Responsive Classroom principles and practices to address their burning questions around each of the four domains.  Participants will hear from experts in the field and have the opportunity to connect with other like-minded educators around real-life problems of practice, generating solutions they can take back to the classroom the very next day.

Part One: Feb. 3rd 7-8:30 PM EST


A safe, predictable, joyful, and inclusive environment where all students have a sense of belonging and significance is a pillar of any classroom space. This session will focus on ways that practices such as Morning Meeting, Responsive Advisory Meeting, teacher language, rules, and logical consequences can be adapted to strengthen and maintain a positive community.

Part Two: Feb. 10th 7:00-8:30 PM EST


A calm and orderly learning environment promotes autonomy, responsibility, and high engagement in learning. This session will examine ways educators can strengthen and clearly communicate routines and expectations so students can gain greater independence and manage their learning spaces and responsibilities.

Part Three: February 17th 7:00-8:30 PM EST


Learner-centered lessons are participatory, appropriately challenging, fun, and relevant, promoting curiosity, wonder, and interest. This session will help educators generate ideas for using Academic Choice, interactive learning structures, active teaching, and student practice to enhance student engagement across multiple learning environments.

Part Four: February 24th 7:00-8:30 PM EST


We should base all decisions about teaching and discipline upon research and knowledge of students’ social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. This session will explore ways educators can adapt the approach to get to know students, connect with families, and build on individual student strengths.
