The Responsive Classroom Course for Elementary Educators

In four interactive days, you’ll learn to use core Responsive Classroom practices to engage students academically, build positive community, manage the classroom effectively, and create a developmentally appropriate learning environment. Topics include: Morning Meeting, Interactive Modeling, Teacher Language, The Responsive Classroom Approach to Discipline, Academic Choice, Energizers, Closing Circles, and Interactive Learning Structures.

No prerequisite – Suitable for grades K–6

Responsive Classroom Course for Middle School Educators

In four interactive days, you’ll learn to use core Responsive Classroom practices and strategies such as Responsive Advisory Meeting, Interactive Modeling, teacher language, a framework for teaching discipline, and engaging instruction—and more—to engage students academically, build positive school and classroom communities, manage the classroom effectively, and develop students’ intrinsic motivation to choose socially responsible behaviors.

Responsive Classroom Advanced Course for Elementary Educators

Deepen the skills you learned in the Responsive Classroom Course and take your teaching to a higher level by taking the Responsive Classroom Advanced course. Spend two days each on:

  • Engaging Academics
    • Topics include: Morning Meeting, Interactive Modeling, Guided Discovery, Language of Learning, Open-ended Questions, and Academic Choice
  • Effective Management
    • Topics include: Teacher Language, Classroom Organization, Role-play, Preventing and Responding to Misbehavior, and Problem-solving Conferences

To offer you choice and flexibility, the Responsive Classroom Advanced Course is being offered as two 2-day modules:

  • Engaging Academics Module
  • Effective Management Module

Prerequisite: RCC or RCI

Engaging Academics 2-day Module

Create learning tasks that are active, interactive, appropriately challenging, purposeful, and connected to students’ interests.

Topics in this 2-day (14-hour) module include:

  • Morning Meeting
  • Interactive Modeling
  • Guided Discovery
  • Language of Learning
  • Open-ended Questions
  • Academic Choice

To offer you choice and flexibility, Engaging Academics is also being offered as the first two days of the 4-day Responsive Classroom Advanced Course.

Effective Management 2-day Module

Create a calm, orderly environment that promotes autonomy and enables students to focus on learning.

Topics in this 2-day (14-hour) module include:

  • Problem-solving Conferences

One-Day Workshops

Introduction to Responsive Classroom for K-8 Educators

Learn how the Responsive Classroom approach boosts children’s social and academic skills while reducing behavior problems. Here’s what you’ll do in this one-day workshop for elementary and middle school educators:

Responding to Misbehavior

Enhance your skill in managing common classroom discipline problems in this one-day follow-up workshop. You’ll tie together strategies you learned in RCC and have plenty of time to:

  • Describe problem behaviors
  • Articulate ideal behaviors
  • Generate possible theories as to why a child is misbehaving
  • Consider options for intervening

Introduction to Responsive Classroom for Administrators

In this free half-day workshop for school and district administrators, gain a broad overview of the Responsive Classroom approach and learn how it can enhance teaching and learning throughout your school.

  • Learn what the research says about the impact of both Responsive Classroom and the broader field of social emotional learning
