General information

Our current offerings include a sampler for beginners, an overview for administrators, and one-day follow-ups to our week-long summer institutes. Tuition is $179. Dates and locations for Fall 2008 are now available. Registration will open on August 25, 2008.

Workshop descriptions

Responsive Classroom Sampler (ODS)
INTRODUCTORY OVERVIEW
PREREQUISITE: NONE

Through discussion and lively interaction, learn how the Responsive Classroom approach boosts children’s social and academic skills while reducing behavior problems. Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Participate in Morning Meeting
  • Explore foundational ideas
  • See practices in action
  • Investigate the Responsive Classroom approach to discipline
  • Gather practical tips to try in your classroom right away
Overview for Administrators (ODA)
PREREQUISITE: NONE

Explore foundational ideas and practices and learn how the Responsive Classroom approach helps schools build strong learning communities. Through discussion and practice, you’ll:

  • Discover how the approach maximizes social/emotional learning and student achievement
  • Learn about research showing the effectiveness of Responsive Classroom practices
  • Explore ways to support implementation of the Responsive Classroom approach in classrooms and schoolwide.
Responding to Misbehavior (RMB)
PREREQUISITE: RCI or PEI

Enhance your skill in managing common classroom discipline problems. You’ll tie together strategies you learned in Responsive Classroom I or PEI and have plenty of time to practice:

  • Describing problem behaviors
  • Articulating ideal behaviors
  • Generating theories about children’s misbehavior
  • Considering options for intervening

NOTE: RMB is open only to those who have completed a Responsive Classroom week-long institute.

 

Morning Meeting and Academics (MMA)
PREREQUISITE: RCI

Deepen your understanding of how Morning Meeting can be used as a strong foundation for learning throughout the day. You'll build on what you learned in RCI as you:

  • Explore practical ways to incorporate academic content into Sharing, Group Activity, and Morning Message.
  • Learn strategies for balancing social and academic learning in Morning Meetings
  • Work with fellow participants to plan Morning Meetings for your own classes  
NOTE: MMA is open only to those who have completed a Responsive Classroom week-long institute.

All our presenters are experienced practitioners who know the classroom. They have all completed a rigorous certification program that includes learning to implement Responsive Classroom masterfully in a classroom setting and learning to teach Responsive Classroom principles and practices to adults.
