| Marlynn K. Clayton, NEFC Co-Founder, Retires

After almost three decades of service to Northeast Foundation for Children, Marlynn K. Clayton retired this past December. She will be remembered for her passion for teaching, her commitment to providing high-quality professional development, and her devotion to bringing developmentally appropriate practices into every classroom. |

"Marlynn is a consummate teacher whose accomplishments during her career are innumerable and wide-ranging," says Roxann Kriete, executive director of NEFC. "She has had a profound influence on elementary education through her direct work with children and their families, with teachers, and with teachers of teachers. Countless more educators have been influenced by her writings and video productions. "
During her time at NEFC, Marlynn was a primary grade teacher, a consultant, a program developer, a professional development specialist, and an author. She also served for many years on the board of directors and was instrumental in launching the certification program for Responsive Classroom consulting teachers.
Throughout all her work, Marlynn encouraged teachers to create classroom spaces that were welcoming and joyful places for children. She will be remembered by many for her love of blocks and her tireless efforts to keep them in elementary school classrooms.
Marlynn's publications include Classroom Spaces That Work; Places to Start (VHS); A Notebook for Teachers; and many DVDs, including Creating Rules with Students, Time-Out, and Teacher Language.
Marlynn reflects, "My years of service have brought me so many rewarding opportunities and privileges. I feel so grateful to have been able to dedicate my work life to children and to my convictions about how they learn best. I also feel blessed for the chance to have worked with so many knowledgeable and inspiring colleagues and teachers."
Thank you, Marlynn, for your deep devotion to children and for all that you've done to make classrooms and schools more joyful places for learning.
