| Introducing a new, free resource for teachers and parents! |
It’s the “Yardsticks” blog, sponsored by Northeast Foundation for Children, Inc. (NEFC) and written by Chip Wood, author of our best-selling book, Yardsticks: Children in the Classroom Ages 4–14, and current co-principal of Sheffield Elementary School in Turners Falls, Massachusetts.
Since August 2007, Chip has been regularly posting journal-style entries on topics including:
- Teasing and bullying
- Best friends
- Video games and fine motor skills
- Changing the pace of school
- Cultural equity in education
Whether he’s sharing stories from his school, his travels, or his experiences as a grandparent, Chip’s thoughts return consistently to the theme of Yardsticks—the importance of “paying attention to knowledge and theory about child development as we do our work in school.”
Chip invites readers to make comments and ask questions, and posts responses to them on the site. He explains,“My hope is that this blog will not only continue to provide and refer people to information that is helpful, but also link parents, teachers, and other professionals working with children.”
