Edublog Award Nominations

by Jen Audley on

Earlier this week, I asked the Responsive bloggers to let me know if they had ideas for blogs to nominate for the 2011 Edublog awards. This was pretty short notice, since the deadline is today! Thanks to Margaret Wilson and Tina Valentine, who offered these suggestions:

Individual blogs:
Heather Wolpert's Tweenteacher
She teaches in a public school in California, so she definitely has her pulse on the challenges of what it's like to be a teacher today. Her blog balances that view with a view on bigger picture issues, so each entry is always really relevant and at the same time very inspiring.   —Margaret

Richard Byrne's Technology for Teachers
User friendly. His ideas are very easy to implement and fascinating.   —Tina

Ed tech/resource-sharing blog: Edudemic
I love the updates and free tips, and that they include advice for parents such as this guide for using iPads with children.   —Tina

Teacher blog: Mercier Magic
Part of a fabulous website created by a classroom teacher in Connecticut for her students, their parents, and other teachers, this blog inspires some wonderful interactive conversations and is frequently updated.   —Tina

Group blog: Edutopia
Although they have a variety of bloggers, the Edutopia blog has a unified perspective that always pushes teachers to think about and do what is best for students. To me, the entries are a perfect blend of inspiration and practical ideas for making that inspiration come true.   —Margaret

New blog: Calling Caldecott
It unabashedly celebrates children's books, generally choosing one book to feature in detail and inspiring a great deal of interesting commentary on those books.   —Margaret

Of course, these are just a few of the many, many blogs we enjoy! And of course, it makes us a little uncomfortable to "play favorites" by nominating some and not others for an award. However, I decided that I wanted us to participate this year because since it began in 2004, the Edublog awards process has proven to be such a valuable way for educators to learn about great online resources—and to find colleagues to collaborate with and learn from across the globe.

We'll link to the shortlist of nominees in the comments below and on the RC Facebook page when voting opens next week. In the meantime, you can check out this year's nominations, by searching for #eddies11 on Twitter or doing a Google blog search for posts containing the words "Edublog awards."  Enjoy!
